Simple Science
Cannabis Science, Made Simple
Everything a budtender needs to explain cannabis β In Simple Terms. No chemistry degree required.
1. The Body's Lock & Key
Your body has a built-in system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Think of it like a giant switchboard that keeps your body balanced β managing mood, pain, sleep, appetite, and inflammation.
Cannabis works because its compounds (cannabinoids) fit into this system like a key into a lock.
π CB1 Locks β In the Brain
THC loves these. Activating them changes mood, pain, appetite, and memory. This is where the "high" happens.
π CB2 Locks β In the Body
CBD loves these. Activating them calms inflammation and immune response. No high β just relief.
2. The Big Two: THC & CBD
THC β "The High"
The part that gets you lifted. Plugs into brain locks (CB1).
Great for:
- β’ Pain relief
- β’ Appetite / nausea
- β’ Mood & sleep
CBD β "The Calm"
No high. Plugs into body locks (CB2) and calms the nervous system.
Great for:
- β’ Anxiety & stress
- β’ Inflammation
- β’ Seizures
Pro tip: THC + CBD together work better than either alone. CBD also takes the edge off THC's intensity β great for anxious customers or beginners.
3. Terpenes β The Flavor Directors
Terpenes are the smells and flavors of cannabis β but they also steer the effect. Same THC level, different terpenes = totally different experience.

4. Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid β Real Talk
βοΈ Sativa
Uplifting, cerebral, energizing. Best for daytime, socializing, creativity.
π Indica
Relaxing, body-heavy, sedating. Best for evening, sleep, pain, winding down.
πΏ Hybrid
A blend. Effects depend on which terpenes dominate β read the profile, not the label.
The truth: The Indica/Sativa label matters less than people think. Terpenes predict effects better than the type label. A "Sativa" with heavy myrcene can still couch-lock you.
5. The Entourage Effect
Cannabis isn't just THC. It's THC + CBD + terpenes + other cannabinoids, all working together like a band.
Each compound alone is weaker than the whole plant together. That's why full-spectrum products (with everything kept in) often feel better and more balanced than isolated THC. The sum is greater than the parts.
