What Are They?
Terpenes
Terpenes are what give cannabis its smell and flavor. They're the same natural compounds that make lemons smell citrusy, lavender smell floral, and pine trees smell piney. Cannabis makes over 200 different terpenes, and each one has its own scent and its own set of effects on your body.
Cannabinoids
Cannabinoids are the active compounds found only in cannabis — over 100 of them. You've probably heard of THC (the one that gets you high) and CBD (the one that doesn't). But there are many others, like CBG, CBC, CBN, and THCV, each with its own unique effects — from calming you down to easing pain to helping you sleep.
What Do They Do for the Plant?
Terpenes
To the plant, terpenes are a built-in defense system. Their strong smells keep bugs and hungry animals away. Some terpenes also fight off mold and bacteria that could harm the plant. Think of them as the cannabis plant's natural bug spray and shield.
Cannabinoids
